Women’s History Month is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, perspectives, and contributions of women across our communities and industries. At EIMC, we’re proud to recognize the individuals on our team who bring dedication, expertise, and thoughtful leadership to their work every day.
This week, we’re pleased to highlight Sana Ng, Senior Marine Claims Consultant based in London, U.K. In this feature, Sana shares the inspiration that has shaped her outlook, the values that guide her work, and the advice she would offer to women starting their careers in the industry.
Recognizing Women’s History Month is also about listening to and learning from the voices of our colleagues, and we’re proud to share Sana’s story.
Q: What does Women’s History Month mean to you, and why do you think it’s important to celebrate it?
A: To me, it is important to celebrate Women’s History Month. Recognizing women helps create an environment with greater awareness of gender equality. We should continuously celebrate the achievements of women and recognize their contributions during Women’s History Month.
Q: Who is a woman that has inspired you, personally or professionally?
A: Audrey Hepburn. She survived WWII, and this experience gave her a deep sense of empathy and a fervent desire to make a positive impact. She faced many difficulties in her lifetime, but she remained optimistic when facing her hardships. She also devoted herself to charities and even set up her own charity to help others.
She taught me the attitude to overcome challenges, to always help others as much as we can, and to keep moving forward.
Q: Who is a woman who has had a meaningful influence on your life, and how has she shaped who you are today?
A: Keeping a positive mindset, along with empathy and care for others, are key messages and values I learned from Audrey Hepburn. This mindset is important for being a loss adjuster and surveyor, as it helps with resolving claims efficiently and working proactively.
Q: What is one of your favorite inspirational quotes?
A: “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says “I’m possible”
This iconic quote from Audrey Hepburn always reminds me to keep a positive mindset and continue learning new things to overcome the obstacles in daily life.
Q: What advice would you give to women who are just starting out in their careers or considering this industry?
A: Dare to challenge yourself, keep learning, and strive to drive change. Age, nationality, and gender should not be issues when working in this industry. Being yourself and having a positive mindset will help you stand out in this industry.
Q: What strength do you think women bring to this industry that deserves more recognition?
A: In the past, women were perceived as “protectors,” not the best at making decisions. To me, patience and empathy are strengths that women bring to this industry. Patience doesn’t mean procrastination. It means listening to others’ voices, taking time to assess the situation, and gathering detailed information to consider things thoroughly. The power of patience and empathy can help women act at the right time.
Therefore, women can also be professional and capable in decision-making. Furthermore, breaking these stereotypes and biases will help women receive the recognition they deserve in this industry.
