  1. EIMC will position surveyors to respond at Port of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico, for arrival of MAERSK ESSEN anticipated this week

    CONTAINERS OVERBOARD AGAIN!

The recent series of casualties involving losses of containers overboard continues in 2021!

The “MAERSK ESSEN” reportedly encountered heavy weather in crossing the Pacific, from China to the US West Coast, with a reported approx. 750 containers overboard on/about January 16, 2021. An unknown number of damaged containers are expected to remain on board; however, detailed information has not yet been provided by carriers. The 13,100 TEU capacity vessel was part of the carrier’s trans-Pacific TP6 Asia/US service, with cargo from Vietnam, Hong Kong and China, departing Yantian on/about December 26th.

ETA Los Angeles is still unclear and could be as early as January 22, 2021, but there are reports that vessel may first go to anchor before arrival into the Port of Los Angeles. Early estimates indicate vessel may be in port for upwards of 2 weeks.

EIMC has a robust staff network across all key US ports and is well positioned with multiple experienced surveyors in Los Angeles/Long Beach. We stand ready to assist with investigations of this vessel and suspect containers of interest.
