In response to the recent incident involving the M/V Genius Star XI, EIMC reaffirms its commitment to providing comprehensive cargo surveying services. The vessel, carrying lithium-ion batteries, recently experienced a fire in one of its cargo holds while approximately 225 miles southwest of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

“As a precautionary measure, the Genius Star XI has been anchored near Dutch Harbor, and assessment teams on site have reported normal air quality with no signs of heat in or around the cargo holds. The Coast Guard has implemented safety measures, including a one-mile safety zone around the vessel.”

EIMC, in collaboration with its local Alaska partner surveyor, is poised to respond promptly to any cargo surveying needs arising from this incident. The vessel has declared General Average, a maritime principle that involves sharing the costs of saving the voyage among all stakeholders.
